Walmart has topped the U.S.-based National Retail Foundation’s (NRF) Top 50 Global Retailers list for 2022.

Produced in partnership with Kantar, the ranking offers a look at the most impactful international retailers based on their operations at the start of last year.

Walmart took the top spot with $585 billion in revenue, followed by Amazon.com ($353 billion).

Costco came in fifth place, posting $219 billion in revenue.

Canadian-headquartered multinational convenience store chain Alimentation Couche-Tard ranked 35 with $14 billion in revenue.

Kantar’s retailer database is maintained in a retailer’s reported local currency, which has been converted to U.S. dollars using the International Monetary Fund rates database to assign rank points.

Points are given to retailers based on their domestic and international retail revenues. To qualify for the rankings, retailers need to have a direct investment in at least three countries.
