Animal-free cultured meat, avocados that ripen on demand and augmented reality contact lenses that activate digital coupons for the items you're eyeing on the shelf -- if it sounds like a scene from a movie, it kind of is.

In his latest digital short, Adam Dylewski, a science writer with a degree in genetics, gives viewers a glimpse of what grocery shopping might look like in 2040.

“I’ve been keeping up with research related to CRISPR , cultured meat and vertical farming for a while now,” he said in an email to UploadVR. “This video was based on my own understanding of how these major advances in biotech and agriculture might impact the future of food.”
