And the new Oreo flavour is...

After more than a century, this is second time Oreo moved beyond black cookie

Oreos are about to get a lot of double takes in grocery store aisles.

Mondelez International is set to release a new red velvet flavour of the cookie next week. This marks only the second time in more than a century that the pantry staple is moving beyond its chocolate cookie formula. (In 2004, Nabisco started selling vanilla Oreos.)

With red velvet now a popular flavour in everything from cookies and cupcakes to cheesecake, Mondelez will be introducing the new variety across the U.S. on Feb. 2. Mondelez Canada confirmed for Canadian Grocer that while there are no plans to bring the new flavour to Canada this year, it will be considering future opportunities for it in the Canadian market.

The new flavour will reportedly be sold in the U.S. for six weeks or until supplies last.
