Calgary Co-op CEO Ken Keelor steps down, Lisa Swartzman tapped as interim chief

Calgary Co-op CEO Ken Keelor is stepping down after 10 years with the company.

Former Loblaw Cos. Ltd. executive Lisa Swartzman has been appointed interim CEO while the board searches for a permanent replacement. 

Board chair Brad Krizan shared the news on Thursday (Oct. 17).

“Calgary Co-op is entering an exciting new phase as we transition leadership following a period of growth, acquiring CarePharmacies, Community Natural Foods and Willow Park Wines & Spirits,” Krizan said in a release.

In a video statement, he added, “Given our shift in focus, the board of directors has made a change in leadership for the organization. The board thanks CEO Ken Keelor for his dedication and commitment to Calgary Co-op and wishes him well in the next chapter of his career.”

Krizan said the board expects a replacement chief executive will be appointed within the next year.

Swartzman currently operates BGO Advisory, which provides advisory and management services to mid-market companies.

Her previous experience includes five years as president of AirBoss of America Corp. She also spent 15 years with George Weston Ltd./Loblaw Cos. Ltd./President’s Choice Financial in progressively senior positions, culminating in VP, treasurer.
