CanGro gets a familiar new name

CanGro Foods is CanGro no more. The canned and refrigerated fruit company has just changed its name to Del Monte Canada.

Why the new name? It better reflects the company and reinforces its strong brand focus, said CEO Bruce Major in a release. He added that the company's Del Monte and Aylmer food products have been sold in Canada for more than a century.

Before being sold to an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners and an affiliate of EG Capital Group in five years ago, the company operated as the Canadian Grocery Division of Kraft Canada.

In addition to fruit, Del Monte Canada sells canned tomatoes and also recently launched Del Monte-branded fruit snacks. It sublicenses the Del Monte brand to Nestle Canada for frozen fruit novelties.
