Costco Wholesale Canada officially opened the doors to its new warehouse in Newmarket, Ont. this morning (Aug. 20), relocating from its long-standing site on Yonge to better serve new and existing members, company says.

The new store, located at 107 Harry Walker Parkway South near Highway 404 and Davis Drive, replaces the original Newmarket warehouse that had been in operation for nearly 23 years.

The original site is temporarily closed while its renovated into the East Gwillimbury Costco Business Centre, set to open later this year.

The new warehouse has added approximately 70 permanent jobs on top of the 450 employees already working at the original location.

More than 166,000-sq.-ft., the new warehouse features wider aisles, an expanded selection of fresh and specialty food offerings, and several on-site services. Among the highlights are a fresh sushi bar—the third in Canada—along with an in-house bakery, butcher, expansive produce area, rotisserie chicken section and a large food court.

As with other Costco warehouses in Ontario, the Newmarket location sells beer, wine, champagne and ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages.

“With the relocation of our Newmarket warehouse, we can continue to serve all of our members in Newmarket and the surrounding area, and bring new consumers and businesses to uncover the benefits of a Costco membership,” said Gino Dorico, senior vice-president and country manager, Costco Wholesale Canada, in a press release. “We are very proud to share this new, larger location with our valued existing and new members in the local community and throughout the area.”
