Dollarama Inc. announced today Johanne Choinière has been appointed Chief Operating Officer.
The appointment, effective May 12, is the result of an extensive search. Dollarama began its hunt for a new COO in August 2013 after former COO, Stephane Gonthier, took a role with a U.S. retailer.
In her new role, Choinière will be responsible for overseeing Dollarama retail operations as well as logistics, distribution and supply chain management.
“I am pleased to welcome Johanne to the Dollarama team,” said Larry Rossy, CEO of Dollarama, in a press release. “A seasoned operator with an excellent track record and strong leadership qualities, she is an ideal candidate to help support and drive our continued growth and prosperity.”
Choinière most recently held the position of senior vice-president of Metro’s Ontario Divison, and had been employed by Metro since 1999.
A report issued by BMO retailing analyst Peter Sklar notes although Choinière has no experience with the dollar store industry, her experience and knowledge base from Metro will be easily transferred to Dollarama.
“We have previously met Ms. Choinière and were generally impressed with her understanding of the Metro business and apparent leadership skills,” Sklar wrote in his report.
