FreshCo to open first store in Vancouver

FreshCo is opening its first store in Vancouver next week.

On Thursday (Nov. 12), the Sobeys-owned discount banner will welcome customers to its new location in the city’s West Broadway neighbourhood.

The landmark site at 1154 West Broadway was formerly home to Toys “R” Us and features Vancouver’s iconic BowMac sign, which was designated a protected city heritage landmark in 1997.

“This new store underscores our ongoing commitment to the community and to building a network of discount stores that deliver exceptional freshness, value, competitive pricing and the quality products Canadians rely on,” FreshCo said.

FreshCo said its new supermarket will offer weekly deals and Scene+ promotions.

Krystal Macdonald will serve as store manager.

The grand opening will feature a brief ceremony, including a ribbon cutting and a $2,500 donation to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

FreshCo currently operates 56 stores in Western Canada and 167 overall.

In June, FreshCo opened its first store on Vancouver Island. It also recently expanded its footprint in Calgary with two new locations, which Sobeys said were part of a broader strategy to grow its discount network in Western Canada.
