The Grocery Foundation appoints Simon Small as executive director
Simon Small has been named executive director of The Grocery Foundation, effective Oct. 14. Small replaces Shaun McKenna who will "officially" step down in 2026, on a date not yet announced.
Small brings nearly 30 years of industry experience to the role. Previously, he worked at The Jordans Dorset Ryvita Company where he served as general manager of the Americas. He has also held leadership roles at Nestlé and Aliments Ultima and has served as a board member of Food and Health Products of Canada.
McKenna, who is a 2025 Golden Pencil recipient for his contributions to the grocery industry, has led The Grocery Foundation since 2017. "We are incredibly grateful to Shaun and the entire team for their tremendous progress in evolving our mission and strengthening our brand in the hearts and minds of Canadians and within our industry," said Joe Fusco, senior vice-president, Metro Ontario and chair of The Grocery Foundation board in a press release.
Since 1979, The Grocery Foundation—a not-for-profit organization—has supported organizations promoting the physical and emotional well-being of kids across Canada through key fundraising initiatives such as the annual Night to Nurture Gala, Make Happy Tummies, and a Voucher Program. The Foundation also helps support the work of Kids Help Phone.
