Metro opened the doors to its newest location on Aug. 29.
Officially named Metro Rideau, the 32,000-sq.-ft. space in Ottawa’s ByWard Market—a hub of outdoor farmers market stalls, boutiques, restaurants, specialty food shops and more—is the grocer’s 132nd store in Ontario and creates 125 jobs.
The new store offers a wide range of fresh and local produce, a variety of seafood, an on-site butcher, a full floral section as well as products from the grocer’s private-label lines Irresistibles and Selection.

The décor, meanwhile, features photos of local landmarks to pay tribute to the surrounding community. (As part of its commitment to that community, Metro will donate $10,000 to the Ottawa Food Bank.)
In a press release announcing the store opening, Metro's senior-vice president Joe Fusco said the new store was a reflection of the ByWard Market community and the product offering has been tailored to meet its needs.
“We are giving customers what they want including local products through our Locally Sourced program and a great selection of ready-made meals including stone baked artisan pizza and a hot carvery station, featuring our ‘signature’ Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich,” he said.
