Food Basics has opened a new store in the eastern Ontario town of Petawawa.
The 32,000-sq.-ft. store is located at 3018 Petawawa Blvd. and is the Metro-owned discount banner's 145th store in Ontario.
According to the company, its newest retail space has a modern feel and customers can find an array of budget-friendly products from its Irresistibles and Selections private-label range as well as locally-sourced items, fresh meat, produce and barbecue chickens.
"Food Basics is always looking for opportunities to expand to new communities, and we are excited to join a dynamic community like Petawawa," said John Manax, vice-president of operations, Food Basics in a release. "No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save on quality products. Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for always fresh, always in stock, healthy food at great prices."
In a nod to the community, the exterior walls of the new store feature historical images sourced from the Garrison Petawawa Military Museum. As it joins the Petawawa community, Food Basics said it was donating to local organizations including the military museum, the Petawawa Pantry Food Bank and the Royal Canadian Legion.
