Egg products supplier P&H Foods Inc. has entered into a joint venture with Atlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) to create a new company, P&H Foods Atlantic.

The new company combines P&H Foods’ management expertise with API’s egg grading assets and knowledge of the Atlantic Canadian market.

P&H Foods, a subsidiary of Parrish & Heimbecker, Ltd., said the deal marks a “strategic step” in expanding the company’s presence in Atlantic Canada. It currently serves customers in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

“This partnership reflects our continued commitment to growing our foods business and investing in the  future of Canadian agriculture. By combining our expertise with API’s strong regional presence, we are  well positioned to build a modern, competitive operation that supports producers, customers, and  communities across Atlantic Canada,” John Heimbecker, CEO of Parrish & Heimbecker, Ltd., said in a release.

API will contribute its existing infrastructure and regional expertise while P&H Foods will lead the management of the grading operation.

“This joint venture marks an exciting new chapter for Atlantic Poultry Incorporated. Alongside P&H Foods,  we will make significant investments in our operations—investments that will modernize our egg grading  business, secure good local jobs, and deliver a major economic impact across our region. It will also allow   us to give shoppers more choice, with an expanded product line at their local grocery store,” Mike Bannister, president and CEO of API, said.

The transaction is expected to be completed this summer, subject to customary closing conditions.
