Calgary Co-op's North Hill Food Centre swung open its doors for business on Thursday (Feb. 26).
The 41,000-sq.-ft. location replaces one of the Co-op's earliest stores, which opened in the community in 1960. Located at 520 16th Ave. N.W., the new store sits at the base of an apartment complex, marking the company's first urban mixed-use store with residential units above the retail space and underground parking.
"Our roots run deep in this community and we're excited to welcome our long-standing members and new customers into this beautiful new store," said Calgary Co-op executive chair Ken White in a press release. "We've maintained what made the original store special: exceptional service, local selection and quality producs, and we know shoppers will be pleasantly surprised by what else we have in store."
Among the location's features is a walk-in pharmacy clinic, full-service meat and seafood counters, fresh oyster bar, exclusive certified Dry Aged Black Angus beef, in-house bakery and a dedicated health and wellness area with an advisor.
Calgary Co-op says the original North Hill Food centre will be demolished to make way for about 15,000-sq.-ft. of additional retail space that will be used for a Calgary Co-op Wine, Spirits, Beer store and a touchless car wash at the existing gas station, both scheduled to open next year.
