Costco Wholesale opened its first location in Brantford, Ont. Friday (Nov. 8).

The previously announced warehouse is Costco’s 41st in Ontario, located at 175 Roy Boulevard, off of Wayne Gretzky Parkway next to the Lynden Park Mall.

Spanning 159,098 square-feet, the club features wide aisles, a variety of specialty departments—such as an on-site bakery, fresh meat, rotisserie chicken section.

It also includes the first Costco sushi department in Ontario, after the department was launched in Vancouver this past summer.

Shoppers can expect an optical centre—including an on-site independent optometrist—a hearing aid centre, five tire centre bays, a food court, gas station with 24 pumps and a pharmacy.

With 14 checkout registers and a new self-checkout section with six stations, the warehouse features 850 shopping carts and 813 parking spots.

The club’s opening has created 180 permanent jobs and 80 seasonal jobs.

“With the opening of this new warehouse, we can serve all of our members in the Brantford and surrounding area—many of whom previously travelled to Ancaster to shop—and bring new consumers and businesses to uncover the benefits of a Costco membership,” said Gino Dorico, SVP and country manager, Costco Wholesale Canada, in a release. “We are very proud to share this new location with our valued existing and new members and member businesses in the local community and throughout the area.”
