Loblaw Companies-owned discount banner Maxi has opened its newest store on Sainte-Catherine Street in The Village neighbourhood of Montreal.

The opening of the more than 18,000-sq.-ft. store is meant to provide the community with “a low-price food offering tailored to the needs of the population in a brand-new environment,” states a press release.

Representing a multi-million dollar investment in the neighbourhood, the store has led to the creation of 70 jobs.

"My team and I look forward to welcoming customers and helping them discover the freshness and quality of their favourite products at the best price, in a modern and brand-new environment. We are also committed to playing an active role within the community, supporting local organizations and making a positive impact on the lives of our customers," says Carol-Ann Laplante, Maxi store manager, in the release.

To commemorate the opening, Maxi donated $2,500 to Café l’Itinéraire, an organization that supports people in situations of social and economic vulnerability.
