Pusateri's 60th anniversary

Pusateri’s Fine Foods is going back in time to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The Toronto-based, family-owned grocer is launching the 60/60 Experience, which it calls “a playful campaign around all things 60,” with 60 days of promotions and food experiences.

From April 1 to 2, all four Pusateri’s locations will roll back to 1963 pricing on select meats and produce. In addition, Pusateri’s will release a daily discount of 60% on rotating key items for the next 60 days. Items on sale the first week of April include Bella Cucina Spinach Artichoke, Bruschetta Spread, Braswell’s Tangy Mustard BBQ Sauce, and Famiglia Dodi Balsamico. The promotional campaign runs for 60 days.

“This is an incredible milestone for both the Pusateri’s brand and our family. Celebrating 60 years in business is no small feat, in fact, these days it’s quite rare,” said owner Ida Pusateri, in an email interview with Canadian Grocer. “To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’re being loud and proud, creating something exciting and rewarding for our customers to participate in.”

Those interested in shopping the 60/60 promotions can visit Pusateri’s Instagram account or sign up for its weekly newsletter via the Pusateri’s website for sale updates.

Pusasteri said the objective of the campaign is “to give back and thank all of our loyal customers who have shown us unwavering support over the past 60 years. With their six decades of support, our family-run business has grown, helping Pusateri’s expand and serve Toronto with exceptional products and service.”

Pusateri’s was founded in 1963 by Salvatore and Rosaria Pusateri, who immigrated to Canada from Sicily in 1957. The first location was a small produce market on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto’s Corso Italia neighbourhood, with the family’s “passion for food and service” at the heart of the business. Pusateri’s eventually grew into a fine-food emporium specializing in gourmet imported foods, speciaity products and unique items. Along the way, Pusateri’s helped introduce Torontonians to many delicacies, including Wagyu beef, Godiva chocolate, Spanish Iberico ham and caviar from the Caspian Sea.

“What started as a local community market gained a reputation for quality extending throughout the city, and it established the foundation for what is now known today as Pusateri’s Fine Foods,” said Pusateri.

Later this year, Pusateri’s is opening a new location on College Street, the city’s Little Italy neighbourhood. In addition to its regular offerings, the new location will feature a café concept offering breakfast, a coffee bar with signature brews and daily menu with indoor and outdoor seating. Pusateri’s current locations include Avenue Road, Bayview Village, Yorkville and the Saks Food Hall at CF Toronto Eaton Centre.

As part of the 60/60 Experience campaign, Pusateri’s is expanding its prepared food and quick-food service experiences at the Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s. “With exciting new lunch food stations including The Carbon Snack Bar, operated in partnership with Toronto’s Carbon Bar Restaurant, fresh poké, a new Bagel Bar experience, and more, we have many new hot and fresh food offerings for those looking to grab a quick and delicious bite to eat,” said Pusateri.
