Simon Somogyi is exiting the Arrell Food Institute to take up a new position at Texas A&M University.
Somogyi currently serves as the Arrell chair in the Business of Food. He is also a professor at the University of Guelph’s School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.
He joins Texas A&M University as the Dr. Kerry Litzenberg Chair in sales and economics and director of the school’s Weston Agrifood Sales program.
Somogyi joined the University of Guelph and was appointed as Arrell Chair in 2018. His last day will be Aug. 31.
“Over this time he has played an instrumental role in research and teaching. Simon is a trusted advisor in agri-food value chains, food business and international market development. He has guided students to become future food leaders, provided critical insights in the media, presented and helped build the platforms for events like the Arrell Food Business and Technology Forum and the Arrell Food Summit, and has been U of G’s campus lead on Canada’s Food Price Report… to name a few! His work has helped elevate the reputation of U of G as Canada’s Food University,” the institute said in a statement. “The AFI team wishes Simon all the best and thanks him for his knowledge, expertise and impact he has made on improving global food systems in this role!”
