Proceeds from the Star of Christmas ornament will support local food banks.
Sobeys is bringing back the 1987 Star of Christmas jingle in Atlantic Canada this holiday season in support of local food banks.
Last week, the grocer released its limited-edition Star of Christmas musical ornament at Sobeys, Foodland and participating Co-Op locations. 100 per cent of the proceeds go to local food banks.
The grocer also partnered with Halifax choir East Coast Carolling and Bahia Makhoul, a former cast member from the original TV spot.
“This is about sparking joy and doing good over the holiday season. We’re proud of what Star of Christmas means to East Coasters and to Sobeys, and we hope to bring a smile to many faces with our campaign, the ornaments and most importantly the meaningful support this is delivering to local food banks. What’s amazing about this nostalgic Sobeys commercial and the jingle is that it feels like it really belongs to East Coasters. We hear from people who have such fond memories of the song and the commercial that when they hear it, it makes it feel to them like the holidays have officially arrived each year," said Erika DeHaas, VP, corporate marketing, Sobeys Inc.
