UNFI Canada sells produce business to FDP Group

UNFI Canada has sold its produce business to FDP Group, effective Dec. 12 

The shift will allow the distributor to dedicate more resources and operational space to expanding its grocery capabilities, including a further investment in its Richmond distributor centre. The investment will aim to increase capacity and improve service reliability. 

FDP Group includes Fresh Direct Produce, Emperor Specialty Foods, Island’s West Produce, and Yen Bros. Food Service Ltd.

“As part of our efforts to better align with the evolving needs of our customers and suppliers – and to become a more effective and efficient partner – UNFI Canada is focusing on where we excel most: grocery,” notes a press release. “These actions strengthen our foundation and set the stage for sustained, long-term growth in the Canadian grocery market.”
