L to R: The Very Good Butchers co-founders James Davison and Mitchell Scott
The Very Good Food Company has terminated the employment of its chief executive officer Mitchell Scott, effective immediately.
The Vancouver-based plant-based food company also announced James Davison had resigned as chief research and development officer and as a member of the board of directors.
Scott and Davison launched the company (under The Very Good Butchers brand) at a farmers’ market on Denman Island, B.C. in 2016. The following year the co-founders opened a vegan butcher shop in Victoria, B.C.
Today, the brand offers a wide range of vegan meat alternatives, including sausages, burgers, ribs, steaks and more. A selection of dairy-free cheese is also sold under The Very Good Cheese Co. brand. And, the company recently announced plans to open 10 to 15 retail locations around the world.
While a search for a new CEO is underway, Very Good has created an executive committee consisting of senior level executives from within the company.
In a press release, president Ana Silva said the company was at an important juncture and it would continue to focus on growing its brands, market share and reputation in the plant-based meat segment.
She said the company was implementing cost-saving measures including shifting marketing dollars from customer acquisition to instead focus on its existing subscribers and, a “workforce reduction.”
