Walmart Supercentre to anchor Calgary’s Southcentre Mall in 2028
Calgary is getting a new Walmart Supercentre.
The retailer is set to open at the Southcentre Mall in 2028, relocating its existing Supercentre at 9650 Macleod Trail SE.
Walmart will become the mall’s anchor tenant, opening in the space formerly occupied by Hudson’s Bay.
The new, two-level store will span 165,000 square feet. Shoppers will find Walmart’s full grocery and general merchandise assortments, as well as its pharmacy and Vision Centre.
Pickup and delivery will also be available.
“Our relocation to Southcentre Mall marks important progress in how we’re evolving to better serve our customers in Calgary,” said Shawn Fujiki, senior director, real estate, Walmart Canada, in a release. “This new Supercentre will help bring even more convenient access to our customers in South Calgary, welcoming them to our one-stop-shop within the Southcentre Mall.”
Southcentre Mall is owned and operated by Oxford Properties.
The new Calgary Supercentre is part of Walmart’s previously announced $6.5 billion investment to expand its store and supply chain footprint across Canada over the next five years.
This announcement marks the fourth new Supercentre planned for Alberta as part of the investment.
The Fort McMurray Walmart Supercentre will open on Thursday (Oct. 22), and two new Supercentres, in Edmonton and Tsuut’ina Nation, are expected to open in 2027.
Walmart Canada currently operates 59 stores in Alberta.
