A new small-format No Frills store has opened in Burlington, Ont.

Alessandro’s No Frills, located at 3091 Appleby Line, spans 15,000 square feet.

Owner Alessandro Checchia started his grocery career as a clerk at No Frills in 2014. For his Burlington store, Checchia has hired more than 50 new local employees.

He also donated $1,500 to the Burlington Food Bank, a local community organization that collects and distributes food and hygiene products to families in need throughout the city.

Alessandro’s No Frills is the Loblaw Cos. Ltd. discount grocer's fourth small-format store.

In May, the chain opened its first-ever small-format store at the corner of King and Shaw streets. It opened another in July in Toronto’s Liberty Village neighbourhood, followed by a 10,000 square-foot No Frills in the city's entertainment district.

In a recent interview with Canadian Grocer, Melanie Singh, president of hard discount at Loblaw, says the company plans to open several small-format No Frills stores in 2024 and in 2025.
