Food Basics marks milestone in Ontario with 155th store
Food Basics opened its 155th location in Ontario Thursday (June 4).
The Metro Inc. discount retailer’s first store in the town of Parry Sound spans 32,000 square feet.
Located at 1 Pine Drive, the “new and contemporary” site is the fourth of eight Food Basics stores slated to open this year.
Food Basics said the store's product offering reflects the flavours of the Georgian Bay area and Southeastern Ontario. Shoppers will find Irrésistible and Selection products, locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce and fresh BBQ chicken.
The Parry Sound store employs a team of 90 people with Corrie MacDonald as store manager.
“We are excited to be able to bring Food Basics to the community of Parry Sound, offering more ways for residents to save on quality products,” said John Manax, vice-president of operations, Food Basics, in a release. “No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save. Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices.”
Customers can earn Moi Rewards and have the option to order groceries online at Foodbasics.ca.
To mark the opening, Food Basics is donating $5,000 to Harvest Share Parry Sound, which is affiliated with Feed Ontario—the retailer’s long‑time partner, notably through Metro’s food recovery program, One More Bite.
