Outcast Foods has hired Tara Wickwire as its vice-president, strategy to oversee marketing, communications and brand positioning.
Wickwire joins the tech company--which takes unsellable or cast-off produce and turns it into powders, vitamins and other products—with more than 20 years of branding experience.
She was most recently with National Public Relations where she worked with such clients as Sobeys, Irving and Telus. Prior to that she was head of PR at Gap Inc.
“We are very pleased to welcome Tara to the team with her depth of experience in brand building,” said Darren Burke, CEO, in a press release. “She brings a unique skillset to Outcast, having worked across industry sectors with a progressive lens on what it takes to create impact as we continue to reimagine solutions to food waste through innovation.”
Outcast Foods has been on a hiring spree of late, recently welcoming Miriam Zitner as VP, business development; Darrin Marchand as VP operations; and Zachary Farrar as VP of product development and regulatory affairs.
Outcast Foods branded products are available at select retailers across Canada. The country has expanded distribution to more than 400 retail locations and, according to the release, has seen positive online sales growth, particularly with its Super Greens gut health product.
