DoorDash adds Empire banners to delivery network
Canadians can now shop from Empire Company’s family of brands on DoorDash.
The delivery company has signed a deal to bring 12 of the retailer’s banners onto its network, including Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, FreshCo, Farm Boy and Longo’s. Empire convenience brands Needs, Boni-Soir and Voisin are also available for on-demand delivery via DoorDash.
Totaling 1,000 stores across ten provinces, DoorDash said the partnership marks one of its largest grocery expansions in Canada.
The company now counts four of the largest five grocery companies in Canada as partners. DoorDash's other grocery partners include Loblaw Companies, Metro and Walmart, among others.
“As digital grocery adoption continues to grow, partnerships with local commerce platforms like DoorDash allow us to extend the reach of our banners and better serve evolving consumer expectations,” said Mohit Grover, SVP of ecommerce at Empire Company Limited, in a statement. “We’re providing customers with flexible, on-demand access to quality and value in more ways than ever before, while complementing our in-store experience.”
Consumers can access nearly 10,000 items available on DoorDash on average per store from Empire’s banners, including fresh produce, pantry staples, household essentials and pharmacy items.
“Home to over a dozen banners spanning coast to coast, Empire is one of the most trusted names in Canadian grocery and retail,” said Mike Goldblatt, vice president of enterprise business development and partnerships at DoorDash, in a press release.
As part of the launch, DoorDash is collaborating with Sylvia Nguyen, who shares approachable Vietnamese-inspired recipes on Nguyen Food Stall.
Nguyen curated three weeknight recipes designed to help Canadians shop smarter and make the most of their grocery baskets: Chicken Pho, Lemongrass Chicken Fresh Rolls and Lazy Girl Banh Cuon. Consumers can click each recipe to build their basket on DoorDash and take advantage of a limited-time promotion.
