Quebec wholesale grocer and restaurant equipment supplier Mayrand is opening a new location in Trois-Rivières.

Slated to open summer 2027, the store promises to deliver the selection of a food warehouse with the “warm” atmosphere of a modern neighbourhood market.

Mayrand, recently acquired by Sobeys parent company Empire Company Ltd., and Groupe Robin broke ground on the project Wednesday (Aug. 25).

“Just a few weeks after the acquisition of Mayrand, this groundbreaking represents the first tangible milestone in our ambitions for the banner and confirms our confidence in its growth potential,” Geneviève Dugré, senior vice-president and general manager, retail operations and business development, Quebec, Sobeys, said in a press release.

Located in District 55, the retailer will offer 8,000 products in a variety of formats, including fresh goods, professional-sized formats, ready-to-cook products and kitchenware.

Mayrand will also offer a selection of natural products and supplements from Rachelle Béry.

The company said Trois-Rivières was strategically selected to support Mayrand’s expansion beyond the Greater Montreal area.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks much more than the start of construction on a new store. It also symbolizes the beginning of a new phase of growth for the Mayrand banner in Quebec,” said Pierre Lapointe, president of Mayrand Entrepôt d’Alimentation (Mayrand Food Warehouse). “Sobeys’ support allows us to accelerate our development while preserving what makes Mayrand strong: a distinctive concept, an extensive product assortment and an experience tailored to both consumers and professionals.”

The store is expected to create some 50 jobs when it opens.
