FreshCo opens first stores in Atlantic Canada

FreshCo is officially in Atlantic Canada.

The Empire Company discount grocer opened two stores in Halifax on Thursday (Aug. 20). Located in Lower Sackville (157 Cobequid Rd) and Bedford (1658 Bedford Hwy Unit 220), were first announced in April. 

A third location is slated to open at Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth this fall.

At the time of the announcement, a spokesperson for Empire (parent company of Sobeys) told Canadian Grocer that “customers can expect a bright and welcoming store with fantastic multicultural foods, fresh produce and a broad assortment of products at low prices.”

Tony McGrath, vice-president of operations at FreshCo, was in attendance for the Lower Sackville store opening.

“It was an honour to be a part of the FreshCo Lower Sackville Grand Opening in Nova Scotia,” he shared in a LinkedIn post, “and to welcome our customers and neighbours to explore the new store. Congratulations to Franchise owner Kevin, Rosie, Chad and the whole team whose hard work made this possible!”
