SIAL Canada brings together more than 800 exhibitors.

The agri-food industry has convened in Montreal this week for the 23rd edition of SIAL Canada.

Taking place April 29 to May 1 at the Palais des congrès de Montreal, the show brings together more than 800 exhibitors and 20,000 professionals from every Canadian province and around the world.

For the first time, the Montreal show spans 100,000 square-feet of exhibition space, CEO Stéphane Thuillier remarked during the show's opening ceremony.

"This edition of SIAL Canada is 20% bigger than the previous one," he said. "With a remarkable increase of 30% for Canadian exhibitors. After a challenging year, SIAL Canada reflects resilience of the agri-food sector."

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald added: "The opportunities are endless. But they're not endless alone, they're endless together. And I think the collaboration that we've seen at SIAL Canada, with over 50 countries represented, is extremely important. It's sending messages, it's building networks and building relationships; sharing knowledge, innovation, technology... Industries like the food and beverage sector are leading the way in this country. They're leading the way in innovation, but they're also leading the way in opportunities."

Competitions include: the SIAL Innovation Competition, the second edition of the Best Canadian Cheesemonger Competition and the Start-up Pitch Competition.
